Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Founded in 1833 by Frederick Ozanam, in Paris, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic organization layperson. The St. Katharine Drexel Conference is the local affiliate serving all of Amador County. Members need not be Catholic to belong to the Society but only share Christ’s spiritual call to serve those less fortunate and in need in our community.
Visiting the clients in their homes when possible is unique to our mission.
In the fiscal year 2017, we helped families and individuals comprising of almost 900 people requesting either direct financial help or referrals to other social services or nonprofit organizations. Again, referrals comprise of over 50% of our help. The types of financial help we provide include assistance with rent, utilities, propane, water, car repairs, dental, glasses, bus fare, food, and clothing.
